HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Meta has introduced a new artificial intelligence feature called Muse Image, allowing users to generate AI images by simply typing the @ symbol, an Instagram username, and a short text prompt.
As reported by Holopis.com, unlike many AI image generators that require users to upload a photo first, Muse Image can use publicly available content from Instagram accounts as visual references.
The feature enables the AI system to generate images resembling an account owner without requiring anyone to manually upload that person’s photos.
For example, a user can enter a prompt such as, “Create a photo of @RPG vacationing at the beach.” The AI then analyzes publicly available images from that account to identify the person’s facial features and physical characteristics before generating a new image.
Meta says the feature is designed to produce more relevant AI-generated images. However, it has also raised privacy concerns because photos from public accounts could potentially be used without the account owner’s explicit consent.
“Technology should make life easier, not compromise security. In an era where our faces and photos have become data, clear privacy controls are essential. Simply keeping an account public does not mean people consent to having their images used to train or generate AI content,” Prachir Singh of Counterpoint Research said, according to The Economic Times, as cited by Holopis.com, Monday (13/7).
How to Prevent Meta AI From Using Your Instagram Photos
Users of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp who do not want their content used for Meta’s AI features can adjust their privacy settings by following these steps:
- Open Settings & Privacy.
- Go to Accounts Center.
- Select Permissions and Data Access.
- Turn off the option “Allow others to use my content for Meta AI features.”
Users can also switch their Instagram accounts to private. With a private account, photos and other content are no longer publicly accessible and therefore cannot be used as references by AI systems that rely on public content.
Updating privacy settings is one of the simplest ways to keep personal photos and data under users’ control as AI technologies continue to evolve and make greater use of publicly available online content.
