HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesia plans to significantly expand internet access in schools next year as part of its nationwide digital education initiative, with the government targeting more than 16,500 educational institutions in 2026. The expansion is aimed at giving students and teachers across the country, including those in remote areas, equal access to technology-based learning.
Head of the Government Communications Office Muhammad Qodari said improving internet connectivity is one of the key foundations of Indonesia’s effort to modernize its education system and reduce disparities between urban and rural schools.
“In 2025, 8,265 schools received internet access through the Digital Learning Program. In 2026, the government aims to expand internet access to 16,557 educational institutions,” Qodari said, Holopis.com reported, Friday (3/7).
Qodari said the program prioritizes not only schools in major cities but also Indonesia’s 3T regions, an official designation for underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas. He added that every educational institution should have access to modern learning supported by digital technology.
Currently, about 77 percent of Indonesia’s educational institutions have internet access, while the remaining 23 percent are still offline and have become a priority for future infrastructure development.
“Nationally, 77 percent of educational institutions already have internet access, while the remaining 23 percent are still underserved and will be the focus of future expansion,” he said.
Government Expands National Digital Education Platform
Alongside improving internet connectivity, the government is continuing to develop Rumah Pendidikan, a national digital platform designed to integrate education services for students, teachers, and school administrators.
According to Qodari, the platform is part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 7 of 2025, which focuses on accelerating digital learning and improving access to quality education.
The government has continued integrating digital education services into the platform, including Ruang GTK, a portal for teachers and education personnel that became part of Rumah Pendidikan in June 2026.
“The platform is designed to provide education services that are easier to access, more integrated, and more efficient for everyone involved in the education sector,” he said.
Rumah Pendidikan offers several digital services, including Ruang Murid, which provides digital learning materials, assessments, and character development resources for students. The service currently records around 1.3 million monthly active users.
Meanwhile, Ruang Guru, which offers teacher training, professional development, performance management, and competency improvement programs, has attracted more than 3 million visits and has also been integrated into Rumah Pendidikan.
The government is also expanding Ruang Sekolah, a data-driven platform that helps schools improve management and educational quality through the use of Rapor Pendidikan, Indonesia’s national school performance report.
More than 280,000 schools across the country are already using Ruang Sekolah or Rapor Pendidikan to support decision-making and develop strategies to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
