HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – North Jakarta Police have arrested two people allegedly involved in a religious blasphemy case during The Sounds Project music festival in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Sunday (Aug. 9, 2026).
The two suspects, identified by their initials R, a woman, and E, a man, are currently being held at the North Jakarta Metro Police headquarters for further legal proceedings. Acting North Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Oki Waskito confirmed the arrests.
“We have secured two people, a woman with the initials R and a man with the initials E,” Oki told reporters in Jakarta, reported by Holopis.com, Wednesday (12/8).
Police will conduct a case review to determine the next stage of the investigation and the legal status of the two individuals.
“Tonight or tomorrow, their status will be upgraded to the investigation stage,” Oki said.
Case Goes Viral on Social Media
The alleged blasphemy incident occurred during The Sounds Project music festival in Ancol on Sunday (Aug. 9). A video of the incident subsequently circulated widely on social media and went viral on Monday (Aug. 10), drawing public attention.
North Jakarta Police had previously called for an official report to be filed so the alleged offense could be processed through legal channels.
The Pademangan District chapter of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) subsequently filed a report on Monday (Aug. 10). The report was formally registered as a police report and became the basis for the investigation.
Police Question Six Witnesses
Following the report, police questioned several witnesses and secured evidence related to the alleged incident. Oki said the evidence seized by investigators was authentic material connected to the reported incident.
“We have questioned six witnesses in this case, and the entire process is still ongoing,” Oki said.
