Indonesia’s Defense Minister Urges Future Military and Police Officers to Uphold Integrity and Leadership

HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has called on future military and police officers to uphold integrity, professionalism, and patriotism as they prepare to serve the nation amid evolving security challenges.

“TNI and National Police officers must excel in knowledge, demonstrate strong character, adapt to change, and have the courage to make decisions and take responsibility,” Sjafrie said, Holopis.com reported, Thursday (

Sjafrie delivered the remarks during a leadership briefing for 2026 prospective junior officers of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) at TNI Headquarters on Wednesday.

He urged the officer candidates to carry forward the spirit of Indonesia’s 1945 Generation, describing patriotism, nationalism, professionalism, and integrity as the core values that should guide their service.

The defense minister said future officers must be prepared to face increasingly complex challenges, including rapid technological advances, geopolitical uncertainty, cyber threats, and information warfare.

He also encouraged the candidates to become leaders capable of providing clear direction, building public trust, safeguarding the honor of their institutions, and always placing national interests above personal or group interests.

“The loyalty of the TNI and Polri is to Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Republic of Indonesia, and all Indonesian people,” Sjafrie said.
