JAKARTA, HOLOPIS.COM – Indonesia’s industrial downstreaming projects are expected to create significant new employment opportunities. To capitalize on this potential, the Ministry of Manpower is aligning its vocational training programs with industry requirements to ensure workers acquire the skills employers need.

The initiative will be implemented through coordination among ministries and government agencies. Its goal is to ensure that training graduates not only obtain competency certificates but also secure jobs.

Ministry of Manpower Secretary-General Cris Kuntadi said demand for skilled workers would continue to grow as downstreaming projects expand across various industrial sectors.

He said industrial downstreaming could become a major source of employment, making it essential for the government to ensure an adequate supply of workers with skills that match companies’ requirements.

“Industrial downstreaming projects are projected to absorb a considerable number of workers,” Cris said, Holopis.com reported, Saturday (7/11).

The Ministry of Manpower aims to expand vocational training across various fields to reach hundreds of thousands of participants. The programs will utilize training facilities in different regions, allowing people to participate without having to travel to specific training centers.

“Training can be conducted in their respective areas. What matters is that once they complete the training, they can enter the workforce. That is our shared challenge,” Cris said.
Training Must Lead to Employment
Cris emphasized that the success of vocational training programs should not be measured solely by the number of participants who enroll or complete their courses.

More importantly, the skills provided must meet the actual needs of businesses and industries. To achieve this, the Ministry of Manpower will strengthen coordination with relevant ministries and government agencies to ensure training programs are directly linked to labor market demands.

The move is considered essential to prevent a mismatch between the competencies of training graduates and the qualifications required by employers.

Vocational programs are therefore expected to serve as a pathway for people to secure employment while helping industries recruit job-ready workers.
Ministry Calls for Stronger Interagency Cooperation
The effort to align vocational training with industry needs also highlights the importance of collaboration among ministries and government agencies.

Cris said FORSES provides a platform to strengthen communication and cooperation among government institutions in implementing various development programs.

Through this coordination, each institution is expected to align its policies and programs to ensure that government initiatives are implemented in a coordinated manner rather than independently.

Meanwhile, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Head Arif Satria expressed hope that FORSES would strengthen ties among ministry and agency leaders, including BRIN’s leadership.
