HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesia has selected the official logo for its 81st Independence Day celebration through a nationwide public vote, marking the first time citizens have been directly involved in choosing the annual national emblem.
“The result reflects the government’s commitment to respecting public choice. The logo for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day belongs not only to the government but to all Indonesians,” Head of the Government Communications Office Muhammad Qodari said, Holopis.com reported, Tuesday (7/7).
The online vote was held from June 24 to June 28 and attracted 68,569 votes from Indonesians across the country as well as members of the Indonesian diaspora overseas.
Participants were invited to choose from five shortlisted logo designs. The winning design, created by Fajar Novario, a graphic designer from Padang, West Sumatra, received 30,699 votes, accounting for 44.73 percent of the total ballots cast.
According to Qodari, the voting process demonstrates the government’s commitment to involving the public in decisions related to national symbols and Independence Day celebrations.
He described the initiative as a new milestone, noting that it was the first time Indonesians had been given the opportunity to select the official Independence Day logo through an open voting process.
Qodari said the approach is expected to encourage greater public participation in Independence Day celebrations while fostering a more inclusive tradition in future commemorations.
He also expressed hope that future governments would continue involving the public in similar initiatives so that Independence Day celebrations become more than official ceremonies and instead reflect collaboration between the government and society.
According to Qodari, the winning logo represents unity, togetherness, and hope for a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia, in line with the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration.
He also thanked everyone who took part in the voting process, saying the public’s enthusiasm reflects the enduring spirit of Indonesia’s independence.
Qodari added that Independence Day should serve as an opportunity to strengthen national unity, inspire optimism, and encourage collaboration across all sectors of society.
“The active participation of the public shows that the spirit of independence remains alive in the hearts of Indonesians,” he said.
