HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Navy has seized approximately six metric tons of suspected illegally mined tin sand after intercepting a cargo truck in North Jakarta during an operation targeting an alleged smuggling network.
As reported by Holopis.com, the operation was launched after naval intelligence received information about a shipment believed to be transporting illegally mined tin from Bangka Island to Jakarta.
A joint task force comprising personnel from the Navy Intelligence Center, the Indonesian Fleet Command, and the Regional Naval Intelligence Unit III was deployed to monitor key locations along the suspected route.
Officers began surveillance near the Kalimati Bridge on Lodan Raya in the early hours of Saturday before confirming that the target truck, bearing license plate B 9336 TYV, had completed a cargo transfer at a warehouse in the Lodan Ancol area. The truck remained under close surveillance before officers moved in to intercept it.
Authorities stopped the vehicle at approximately 1:38 a.m. on Lodan Raya, about 50 meters from the entrance to Sunda Kelapa Port, where it was secured without incident.
The driver, identified only by the initial M, was taken along with the truck to the Regional Naval Command III headquarters for further investigation.
A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 150 sacks of suspected illegal tin sand, with an estimated total weight of six metric tons.
Authorities believe the shipment originated from Bangka Island, one of Indonesia’s largest tin-producing regions. Investigators are continuing to examine the source of the shipment and identify those involved in the suspected smuggling operation.
