HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Forest and land fires have been reported in at least five regions across Indonesia as dry conditions continue to heighten wildfire risks, with firefighters still battling several blazes, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
Abdul Muhari, Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication at BNPB, said one of the latest incidents occurred in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, where a peatland fire broke out in Guntung Manggis Village, Landasan Ulin District.
“The fire, which was caused by natural factors, has affected approximately two hectares of peatland,” Abdul said, Holopis.com, reported, Tuesday (28/7).
The Banjarbaru Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), together with joint emergency response teams, deployed a 5,000-liter water tanker to extinguish the flames and soak the affected area.
“The fire has not yet been fully extinguished and remains under close monitoring,” he added.
Fires Spread to Bangka Belitung, Central Java, and South Sulawesi
Another wildfire was reported in Central Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, where flames spread across land behind Mulya Hamlet (Palempat) in Penyak Village, Koba District.
Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The blaze burned an estimated three hectares of land, and no casualties were reported.
A separate land fire also occurred in Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, scorching around three hectares of community-owned land in Bendorejo Hamlet, Sendang Village. Officials said the cause is still being investigated, but the fire has since been extinguished.
Meanwhile, firefighters continue efforts to contain another wildfire in Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi, where approximately one hectare of land burned in Manarang Village, Mattiro Bulu District.
BNPB said the Pinrang BPBD and joint response teams remain on the ground carrying out firefighting operations while investigators determine the cause of the blaze.
Another wildfire also broke out in Klaten Regency, Central Java, on Sunday (July 26), burning an estimated 2.8 hectares of land in Gunung Gajah Village, Bayat District.
The fire has been successfully extinguished following a joint ground operation by the Klaten BPBD and emergency response teams, while the cause remains under investigation.
