Lagu tersebut ramai diperbincangkan karena tampak diangkat dari baris dalam film “The Little Mermaid.” Sebuah adegan dimana kalimat tersebut diteriakkan oleh Ariel pada ayahnya, Raja Triton, sambil memohon untuk bisa bersatu dengan Pangeran Eric, kekasihnya yang merupakan seorang manusia “Ayah, aku mencintainya!”
Namun, ada juga yang mengatakan bahwa Allie (Rachel McAdams) dalam film legendaris “The Notebook” juga mengatakan kalimat serupa sambil membela hubungannya dengan seorang anak laki-laki dari dunia lain: “Ya, ayah, aku mencintainya.”
Namun, dalam lagu tersebut, Swift menyanyikan tentang “anak perempuan yang patuh” yang dirusak oleh seorang pria yang memiliki sifat yang berlawanan dengan dirinya.
