HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia will soon unveil its first nationally developed electric motorcycle, saying the launch is expected to take place within the next few weeks.
“In the coming weeks, I will launch our national electric motorcycle,” Prabowo said, Holopis.com, reported, Monday (19/7).
The president made the announcement during a national harvest event for sugarcane, rice, and soybeans at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang Regency, East Java, on Friday.
Prabowo said he hopes the electric motorcycle will be widely used by Indonesians, including farmers, as part of efforts to promote environmentally friendly transportation while supporting daily economic activities.
“I hope our farmers will at least be able to ride electric motorcycles. Who knows, someday they may all be driving cars as well,” he said.
Beyond the electric motorcycle, Prabowo said the government is also working to develop a national car designed and manufactured by Indonesian engineers.
He pointed to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), which have already begun using domestically produced military utility vehicles, as an example of the country’s growing automotive capabilities.
“We will have motorcycles made by Indonesian talent. We will have cars made by Indonesian talent. Today, the TNI is already using jeeps built by our own people,” Prabowo said.
The president also urged Indonesians to remain optimistic about the country’s future, saying ambitious national goals are essential to achieving long-term prosperity.
The planned launch of the national electric motorcycle is expected to support the development of Indonesia’s domestic automotive industry, reduce reliance on imported vehicles, strengthen the local component supply chain, and accelerate the country’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
