HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – State-owned electricity company PLN has introduced dedicated public charging stations for electric motorcycles as Indonesia continues expanding its electric vehicle infrastructure.
“When traveling long distances and my motorcycle needs to be recharged, I can simply check the PLN Mobile app to find the nearest charging station,” electric motorcycle user Elen said, Holopis.com reported, Wednesday (8/7).
Known as SPKLU R2, the new charging stations are designed specifically for two-wheeled electric vehicles, offering a more convenient alternative to the public power outlets and car charging stations that many riders previously relied on.
The charging system is fully integrated with the PLN Mobile application. Users can locate a charging station, scan a QR code, select the amount of electricity they wish to purchase, complete a cashless payment, and begin charging.
Unlike conventional public electricity outlets, the new system also allows users to receive refunds for unused electricity credits, providing greater flexibility during the charging process.
Each SPKLU R2 unit can charge up to six electric motorcycles simultaneously, with a total capacity of around 35 kilowatts. At some locations, PLN has installed two units, allowing up to 12 vehicles to charge at the same time.
The stations are compatible not only with electric motorcycles but also with electric scooters and electric bicycles that use plug-in charging systems.
PLN expects the new facilities to support Indonesia’s growing number of electric motorcycle users while making public charging more practical and accessible.
The rollout of SPKLU R2 is also part of broader efforts to strengthen the country’s electric vehicle infrastructure and encourage the adoption of cleaner transportation.
