HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism has launched five strategic programs aimed at making the country’s tourism sector safer, more sustainable, higher in quality, and more digitally driven.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the initiatives are designed not only to strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness as a global travel destination but also to ensure tourism generates broader economic benefits for local communities.
“To ensure the economic benefits of tourism reach even the smallest local businesses, we have developed a tourism village program,” Widiyanti said during a press conference in Jakarta, Holopis reported.
1. Safer Tourism
The first initiative focuses on improving tourist safety through better destination management. The program includes safety education for visitors, competency-based training and certification for tourism workers, the development of destination safety standards, and disaster risk mapping for tourist areas.
2. Strengthening Tourism Villages
The second program aims to develop tourism villages as drivers of local economic growth. The government plans to strengthen networks among tourism villages, provide mentoring for communities with tourism potential, expand community empowerment programs, support tourism village certification, facilitate halal certification in partnership with Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), and promote village cooperatives.
3. Promoting Higher-Quality Tourism
The third initiative, Quality Tourism, seeks to increase the value of tourism destinations while attracting higher-spending visitors.
The program will promote specialized tourism experiences, including gastronomy, marine tourism, wellness tourism, and MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions).
Planned activities include the Clean Tourism Movement, curated tourism attractions and travel itineraries, the Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy Event, the Wonderful Indonesia Wellness Event, and assistance for the development of heritage tourism destinations.
4. ‘Hidden by Indonesia’ Campaign
The fourth program, Hidden by Indonesia, is designed to strengthen Indonesia’s tourism brand internationally by organizing high-quality tourism events and promotional activities.
Among the planned initiatives are the Parisman Iban-Nusantara program and the Southeast Asia Business Development Forum.
5. Tourism 5.0 Powered by AI
The fifth initiative, Tourism 5.0, focuses on digital transformation through the adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
“Tourism 5.0 is a digital transformation program that leverages technology to create a more efficient and higher-quality tourism sector,” Widiyanti said.
Under the program, the ministry will develop the Event by Indonesia platform to help travelers access information about tourism events nationwide.
The government also plans to establish a unified national tourism data system, develop an AI-powered tourism website, and utilize Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to support online licensing verification.
The Ministry of Tourism expects the five initiatives to improve Indonesia’s global tourism competitiveness while delivering more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable economic benefits across the country.
