HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Religious harmony in Indonesia continues to show a positive trend, with the country’s Religious Harmony Index (IKUB) reaching a record high of 77.89 in 2025, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) as of Aug. 21, 2026.
The score is the highest recorded since the IKUB survey was first conducted in 2015. The 2025 survey was carried out between September and November and involved 13,836 respondents representing six religions in Indonesia.
Among the three indicators measured, tolerance recorded the highest score at 88.82, followed by equality at 79.35 and togetherness at 65.49. Overall, the 77.89 score places Indonesia in the “High” category for religious harmony.
Harmony Index Rises Consistently
Indonesia’s religious harmony index has continued to improve over the past several years. The score stood at 72.39 in 2021, rising to 73.09 in 2022, 76.02 in 2023, 76.47 in 2024, and finally reaching 77.89 in 2025.
Several provinces recorded scores significantly above the national average. North Kalimantan ranked first with a score of 87.23, followed by Southeast Sulawesi at 86.52, Bangka Belitung Islands at 85.41, North Sulawesi at 85.27, and West Sumatra at 85.02.
The high scores are considered to contribute to safer and more comfortable communities, while creating greater opportunities for cross-religious collaboration and reducing the potential for horizontal conflicts.
Digital Strategy and Conflict Mediators
The improvement in religious harmony has been supported by several government initiatives. One of them is the SI-RUKUN application, which is integrated with 1,156 religious counselors to help identify potential conflicts at an early stage.
Kemenag has also developed 468 Harmony-Aware Villages (DSK), strengthened the capabilities of 905 field mediators for conflict resolution, and launched the Youth Harmony program in five major cities to engage and educate younger generations.
Kemenag Secretary General Kamaruddin Amin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining the positive trend amid evolving social dynamics.
“The government continues to work to improve the quality of religious harmony and mitigate various developments emerging in the field,” he said.
The government hopes that stronger communication between religious communities and greater grassroots literacy will ensure that the improvement is not merely reflected in statistics, but is also felt in Indonesians’ everyday lives.
