I’m a Mess menceritakan kisah tentang kekacauan seseorang yang telah ditinggal pergi selamanya oleh sang kekasih. Digambarkan dalam lagu tersebut, orang itu sulit untuk bisa kembali menjalankan kehidupannya setelah kekasihnya tiada.
